Rocky Point Bird Island More Sea Lions
It's so much fun to jump off the boat and into the ocean and swim with 1000's of Sea Lions at the popular and well known Bird Island at Rocky Point, Sonora, Mex.. They are big, some over 350 lbs, but they are very play full and pretty much harmless. They are as curious about you as you are them. So in addition to viewing many Sea Birds you will get to have fun swimming with the Sea Lions. There are boats available for charter to take you and your guests to the island located 27 nautical miles from the shores of Rocky Point. Most provide snorkel gear so while out there you can snorkel and get a view of some pretty colorful fish. This is truly something the whole family can enjoy and great picture taking too. You'll want to charter your boat during the warmer months, March through the middle of November, if your quest is to swim and snorkel out there. Or it's worth the trip just to view all the sea life from the boat.
ROCKY POINT BIRD ISLAND SEA LONS
Bird Island is a huge island/rock located 27 nautical miles south from the shores of Rocky Point, Sonora, Mex.. It's a haven for over 3500 Sea Lions who make their home there year round. Also hundreds of Sea Birds flock there at various times of the year to mate....i.e. the name Bird Island. As we approach the island by boat it is quite a sight with literally thousands of Sea Lions in the ocean swimming and others lying on the rocks sleeping. You can see in one of the photos it is possible to get into the ocean and swim right along with them. While the male Sea Lions can be as large as 350 lbs. they are quite harmless. In this photo you can also see many Sea Birds flocking around in a playful manner. Boats can take groups of people out to view and swim with the sea life at Bird Island. Most charters provide life jackets and snorkel gear. A "must do" when visiting Rocky Point.

"ACTION FISHING' IN ROCKY POINT
How about "action fishing". While our goal is to catch big fish we occasionally head out 10 to 15 miles off shore for smaller fish and alot of them. Fish like Cochi, Rock bass and Calico bass. These smaller fish are for the 1st time fisherman or for families that want their kids to get a "feel" for ocean fishing. Typically these fish can vary in size from 5 lb. to 15 lb. and are alot of fun to catch. I recall on one fishing trip, a group with 5 people reeled in 150 Cochi fish. They hit hard and are real fighters so hang onto your pole. And they're very good to eat.........great fish tacos.
ROCKY POINT BIKE RALLY 2012
This past Nov 9, 10 and 11th this little seaside village hosted the 12th Annual Biker Rally and like the others all went well. I honestly believe there were more motorcycles due to the awesome weather we've been having. The Malecon over in Old Port was wall to wall motorcycles and everyone was having a great time. People were eating, talking, dancing and oh yes "burn outs" that would knock your socks off. All this going on with the beautiful Sea of Cortez in the background. There was live music and vendors selling all kinds on neat stuff. The event started on Friday Nov 9th but got a big kick off with the bike parade thru town on Saturday the 10th. Motorcycles and clubs from many places, Mexico and the U.S. and Canada and Alaska too. This is a yearly event so put it on your calendars and hope to see you here at Rocky Point, Sonora, Mx for the next Bike Rally. You'll want to make your reservations at one of the 5 star hotels, condos or resorts as soon as possible. Happy Trails!
ROCKY POINT RESTAURANTS (FISH)
I know that in Rocky Point where fishing is a main source of income there seems to be few restaurants offering All You Can Eat Fish. I do know of a couple, having eaten there many times, and can pass this info onto you. The 1st photo is of Rosy's Restaurant located in the middle of the block on street No Reelecion just west of the stoplight at Ave Constitution. On Friday nights she serves great fried fish from 4 pm to 8 pm........$8.50 U.S. dollars per person. She also serves early morning breakfast and lunch. Look for Rosy's yellow building with the big banner. The 2nd photo is of the Pink Cadillac Bar and Grill located in the Mirador area just east of Manny's Beach Club. At this location for 20 years they serve Flounder on Friday nights from 3 pm to 9 pm....$9.75 U.S. dollars per person. Nicely decorated restaurant, good food and great drinks. The 3rd photo is of Cocina Ramon's located 3 blocks east, then south of Ace Hardware. Right on the corner since 1992. Ramon serves an "all you can eat" fish and chips dinner on Friday nights from 12 pm to 8 pm.....$10.00 U.S. dollars per person. He also has a new location at the Sonoran Sea Condos out on Sandy Beach. Ramon has won the Iron Chef contests and is known as "The Father of the All You Can Eat Fish and Chips". So go out an enjoy one or all 3 next time you visit Rocky Point, you will not be disappointed.
